An accounts assistant with leading Salisbury based chartered accountants Francis Clark has been recognised as the accountancy apprentice of the year with an 'Outstanding Achievement Award in Accountancy'.

Melanie Selby, who has successfully completed her Association of Accounting Technicians qualification at Wiltshire College, was considered the best student on an accountancy based apprenticeship from 900 apprentices enrolled in 40 vocational areas across Wiltshire.

20 year-old Melanie, who lives in Durrington, said: "When I started the AAT course in 2012, Wiltshire College offered me the opportunity to become an apprentice, which meant the Government has funded my studies.  This was very helpful but even more so was the additional support I received from college representatives who regularly checked on my health and well being, my treatment, progress and performance.

"I am also very grateful to my employers Francis Clark for giving me the opportunity to develop my career."

Francis Clark Partner, Paul Giessler added: "We are delighted with Mel's award and we're all very proud of her.  As a firm, it is important for us to ensure young members of staff have clear career development paths and are supported with the opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge through qualifications.  This not only future proofs the talent we have at our disposal but ensures our people maximize their personal potential."
