Cleveland, Ohio - Hillel International, the largest Jewish student organization in the world, has appointed SS&G Senior Managing Director, Gary Shamis, to its board of directors. The board is comprised of a diverse set of Hillel stakeholders from student leaders to professionals and thought leaders in the Jewish community.
Shamis is widely recognized as a leader in the accounting industry. He joined Cleveland-based accounting firm, SS&G, in 1981, and lead as chief executive officer from 1985 to 2013. His tenure saw the firm grow from nine employees to nearly 600. Credited with innovation in firm management and client service, Shamis is also an author and presenter on a variety of accounting issues, writing articles for several leading industry publications and speaking at conferences around the world.
Shamis' leadership has extended to the local and regional Jewish community in Northeast Ohio, where he has served as chairperson of Hillel at Kent State University and the Cleveland Jewish News, and on the board of the Jewish Community Federation. He currently serves on the human resources development committee of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
