Accounting Today Spotlights Firm for Leadership Equity; Praises Company Culture
Kansas City, Mo.- Accounting Today, a national magazine focused on senior public accounting and tax professionals, recently recognized MarksNelson accounting and consulting firm for its women's initiatives. In the monthly "Practice Profile" piece, Managing Member Mark Radetic explained what makes MarksNelson stand apart from others, and tells how women play a key part in leading and growing the firm.
"I think the word is out that women see that MarksNelson has put together a culture where everyone learns to adjust," Radetic said in the Accounting Today article. "We make it clear to everyone, if you're a partner, whether male or female, you've got to live our mission, you got to live our vision and you've got to adapt to the culture that we've put together."
In 2014, MarksNelson female employees comprised 36 percent of the company, more than twice the national average. In the Accounting Today article, Radetic shared strategies for creating a work-life balance, implementing a flextime policy, and encouraging female leadership. Partner and Assurance and Business Advisory Department Chair Angie McElhaney told of her history as an employee of the firm, starting as a receptionist, and now is the firm's first home-grown female partner, a title she received before her 40th birthday.
McElhaney states in the article "I had mentors all along the way who encouraged me to get involved in accounting and go back to school. That evolution from receptionist to becoming a partner at a CPA firm was one of the biggest events of my life."
This isn't the first time MarksNelson has been recognized by Accounting Today. The firm was named to the list of top accounting firms in the Midwest, which includes seven states: Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. MarksNelson represents the only firm on the list from the Kansas City area. It has been long recognized as one of Kansas City's Top 10 accounting firms, but this is the first time it has been named to this prestigious national list. The regional rankings are based on a number of factors, including revenue and growth.
In the fall of 2014, Radetic received national recognition as one of the top managing partners in the United States, "The MP Elite," by Accounting Today. Also in 2014, the firm was honored for its high percentage of women partners/owners by the Accounting MOVE Project.
