At the Broncos game against the New England Patriots at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver on Sunday, November 29, EKS&H took part in the setting of a new Guinness World Record. Healthcare industry audit partners Kelly Kozeliski and Ryan Sells performed official tallying and verification for the greatest number of false mustaches worn at the same time.

This bit of fun had a more serious mission: to raise awareness for men’s health. University of Colorado Health (UCHealth) and the Denver Broncos teamed up to give false mustaches to fans at the game as part of the month-long “Movember” initiative, which focuses on raising awareness for prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and physical activity for men. The Movember Foundation asks men to grow their mustaches during the month of November to remind them and others to take care of their health.

Kozeliski and Sells’s roles involved meeting with and determining protocol with Broncos, UCHealth, and Guinness World Records officials prior to the game. They reviewed procedures for counting and determined how many mustache wearers would be needed to break the previous record. They met with stadium ushers to familiarize them with the official counting process, which took place during the two-minute warning. Kozeliski and Sells observed as ushers counted people in their respective sections, tabulated these counts, and tallied all sections. To be officially recognized, mustaches had to be on spectators at the two-minute warning and stay on for a full five minutes.

“Setting this new record was a lot of fun, but it also has a very important message,” said UCHealth Chief Marketing Officer Manny Rodriguez. “Checkups with a primary care doctor and health screenings can improve men’s health and even save lives by catching diseases in early stages.”

This service was just one of many EKS&H has provided in partnership with a wide variety of healthcare organizations, including the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the Anchor Center for Blind Children, Children’s Hospital Colorado, Craig Hospital, and University Physicians.

“We’re proud to serve clients like UCHealth in the healthcare industry because of the important work they do in enhancing and saving people’s lives,” said Sells.
