New York City, NY –  Marcum LLP, a top national accounting and advisory services firm, named Mark Chaves, CPA, and Douglas Nakajima, J.D., LL.M.,  as co-leaders of the Firm’s International Tax Services Department. The appointments are effective immediately.

 

Mr. Chaves is a Tax & Business Services partner in Marcum’s Miami office. He has more than 20 years of experience in domestic and international tax planning and structuring, mergers and acquisitions and business reorganizations. His focus is on working with multinational corporations to manage cross border direct and indirect tax issues, foreign tax credit and repatriation planning, reorganization of expatriate and impatriate tax matters, and ASC 740 reporting. In addition, he assists individuals with international estate planning, inbound tax structuring of investments in U.S. real property, and pre-immigration planning, as well as with cross border tax issues and filings for FINCEN compliance.

 

Doug Nakajima is a tax director in Marcum´s Philadelphia office. He has over 30 years of experience in federal and international tax and strategic business planning, advising a diverse client base of U.S. and multinational manufacturing, service and technology, and financial services businesses. He has advised public and private clients on the tax treatment of domestic and cross-border transactions, inbound and outbound business expansion strategies, domestic and cross-border acquisitions, dispositions and reorganizations, intercompany transfer pricing analysis, documentation and audit defense, treaty interpretation, and repatriation planning. He has worked extensively with tax advisors in foreign countries to develop global structures that minimize U.S. and foreign tax exposures, and in this role, has forged effective working relationships with key professionals throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim.
