Lexington, Ky. – Blue & Co., LLC is very pleased to share that Lexington director, Lindy Karns, has been selected as a recipient of Kentucky’s 2017 Women Making History Award presented by The KY Commission on Women. The purpose of this award is to recognize women in the Commonwealth who are inspirational leaders for other females in their workplaces, homes, and communities.

 

Karns was nominated by Lisa Minton of Chrysalis House — an organization for which Karns has volunteered for close to 20 years.

 

About Lindy Karns

Mary Melinda "Lindy" Karns is a Certified Public Accountant specializing in taxation issues at Blue & Co., LLC. Lindy started the firm, Dulworth, Breeding Karns & Pleasants, LLP in 1989 that later merged with Blue & Co. in 2013. Lindy currently serves as a Director within Blue & Co. and helps lead the tax practice in the Lexington, KY office.

 

Karns graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and the University of South Carolina where she earned a master’s degree in accountancy.  She has taught at both of her alma maters, as well as for Eastern Kentucky University’s graduate and undergraduate classes.

 

Throughout her career, Karns has been a community activist. She has served as a former treasurer and chair of the Audit Committee for The United Way; treasurer of the Salvation Army; treasurer of the Kentucky Executive Mansions Foundation; president of Chrysalis house; treasurer of Divine Providence Inc; board member of Kentucky Equine Humane Center; board member of Economic Development Partnership Board; Leadership Committee of Frontier Nursing University; tax committee member and member of the Board of Directors of KYCPA; board member of the American Heart Association; 2012 chair of the American Heart Association Go Red for Women Luncheon; and the Blue Grass Community Foundation – among many others.

 

About Women Making History Award

To commemorate Women’s History Month, The KY Commission on Women (KCW) accepted nominations from women and girls who wanted to recognize a female mentor/role model who are inspiring them to create their own history. Nominations were accepted throughout the month of February. The KCW has selected four individuals to recognize.
